MATCH DETAILS
Hull KR were a dominant force yesterday beating League 1 opposition Oldham 32-0 in the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
Chris Atkin was the first to score after he collected an inside pass from his winger Will Oakes to cross.
Oldham put pressure on Rovers but they couldn’t seem to find that elusive play to equalise. After a spell of Rovers lacklustre attack, they added a second try after Oakes again set up another score with a kick inside, finding Adam Quinlan for his first try of the afternoon.
Oakes was then rewarded after his two assists when Jordan Walne’s offload sent Junior Vaivai on a break and Oakes was on the end to go over the line. Vaivai got his second assist of the afternoon setting up Quinlan for try number two.
After the half-time break, Oldham struggled as Quinlan scored his hat-trick try after some patchy Roughyeds defence finally cracked. Will Dagger got the final try of the game when he side-stepped the tired Oldham defence to make it 32-0.
WHAT WE’VE LEARNED
STRONG BUT SCRAPPY ROVERS PLAY
Hull KR played well for the majority of the game but got a little lacklustre towards the end.
Good defence and some superb efforts in attack meant they were able to successfully make their way into the sixth round of the Cup but coach Tim Sheens said that they lost their way during the second half.
TOP EFFORT FROM OLDHAM
Despite the scoreline, Oldham gave it everything they had.
The Roughyeds completed at 90% possession in the first half which is a huge positive for Scott Naylor’s men to take away. It was just the last-minute defence that let them down in the end.
