Huddersfield Giants remain bottom of the Super League table as Warrington Wolves condemned the Yorkshire side to a third straight defeat.
Josh Charnley and Ryan Atkins both scored twice as the Wolves maintained their perfect start to the season by winning in rather comfortable fashion.
It was the first time in three years that the Wolves have left the John Smith’s stadium with the two points, but the result was rarely in doubt once Charnley’s double helped consolidate the visitors’ control on proceedings after Atkins opened the scoring.
The Giants did give themselves hope with consecutive tries either side of half time but as they pressed for a third, the travelling Wire players moved up through the gears to ensure victory.
After St Helens beat Leeds to maintain 100% start to the campaign, a win was imperative for Warrington as anything less would have seen them fall off the league summit.
To Huddersfield’s credit, they never gave up and a try from Jermaine McGillvary on his return from injury, coupled with Matty English’s crossing, certainly shows that they have quality in the ranks.

In all three games so far this season, the Giants have looked second best from the kick off. Getting off to a good start is imperative in rugby league and Huddersfield have been punished for taking time to get going. If this continues, they’re in trouble.
Warrington take their chances
Not only do Warrington create a host of chances every game, they capitalise on them. Time after time, their men out wide find space down the wings and, more often than not, try-scoring opportunities arise and are taken.
McGillvary will be key to Giants’ season
It may be only his first match back from injury but Jermaine McGillvary was thrown straight back into the fold and it’s easy to see why. His direct style of play, coupled with his power when surging for the line, means he will be crucial for Huddersfield in 2019.
Charnley is up there with the best in the country
Josh Charnley’s brace practically sealed the two points before half time even arrived. He has tremendous, supporting players around him who deliver him quality service, but his ability to finish even the hardest chances make him a force to be reckoned with. He had two chances last night and took both without a moment’s hesitation. Clinical.
