Salford near enough secure a playoff spot after a seventh straight win.
MATCH DETAILS
Ian Watson’s side made the trip to Yorkshire looking to win a seventh match in a row, however they faced an inform Rhinos side.
The Red Devils had failed to win in their last 13 visits to Headingley, however they were hopeful when Niall Evalds crossed for the opening try of the match. Salford broke away before Hastings played in Evalds to put the Greater Manchester side in front.
On the half hour mark, Jake Bibby extended their lead when scoring in the corner. Krisnan Inu converted to give them a 12-0 lead.
Richie Myler struck back before half-time, however a penalty on the hooter gave Salford a 14-6 lead at half time.
The Rhinos started getting back into the contest when veteran Jamie Jones-Buchanan barged over the line. With 25 minutes to go Leeds trailed 14-12.
Salford sealed the win in the 73rd minute when Joey Lussick powered his way over the line from the ruck. Inu’s conversion gave Salford a 20-12 victory and have nearly secured a playoff spot.
FOUR POINTERS
Super Salford
It has been an amazing rise for Salford, seven wins in their last seven have taken them from relegation worried to playoff contenders. With Hull KR next week it would be no surprise if they make it eight in a row.
Can Salford Relegate Rovers Again
On October first 2016 Salford faced Hull KR in the Million Pound game, with the losing side being relegated to the Championship. This year if London are to beat Wakefield and Salford win, Hull KR will be relegated again to the Championship.
Leeds Rumours
This season the half-back situation at Leeds hasn’t been the greatest. With links to Luke Gale and Jake Connor to join the Rhinos next season, surely Leeds will be able to contend next season.
Flares Thrown
After Salford scored the final try, a flare was thrown from the away end. This has been a problem for years with all clubs, however nothing seems to be tackled. Surely the RFL and clubs have to take a stronger stance to get rid of incidents such as this.
