Just a day out from one of the most prestigious games in Rugby League, we take a look at the key players who could decide the game…
Lachlan Coote
He’s the reason Saints are top the league this season, and could well be the reason they win this final. Coote and his opposite number, Stefan Ratchford both play a vital role for their side with ball in hand, yet it is Coote’s organisation that stands out.
Bringing a left-sided kicking game Coote allows Jonny Lomax to focus on running to his devastating best. His game management could be the reason Saints get this one over the line.
Jonny Lomax
15 tries and 20 assists in the league this season. It seems crazy Lomax is not in talks for the man of steel. However, he might find his crowning glory in the Lance Todd Trophy.
When Lomax is in the zone there is few better at creating something out of nothing, running at a tired Warrington defence late on? Watch this space for a great solo try.
Daryl Clark
Arguably the toughest test lies for Daryl Clark, coming up against the evergreen James Roby. However, if anyone can cause Roby problems, it could be Clark. Lightning-quick out of dummy-half he could provide a platform.
Overcoming the St. Helens forward pack will be vital for the Wolves, the quick play style of Clark could be key to unlocking Justin Holbrook’s men.
Dec Patton
Blake Austin looks certain to miss out meaning the pressure on Patton is huge. Matty Smith is cup-tied so all the responsibility falls on Patton to lead his side around the pitch
This game could be the making of Patton as a top-level half-back. Stefan Ratchford looks likely to fill in the halves and can provide creativity, but he needs Patton to set the game plan.
