Anthony Griffin is set to be shown the door as Penrith Panthers coach as reports emerge about his future at the club.
The report suggests that a meeting has been held this afternoon to end Griffin’s tenure at the club prematurely, having just signed a contract recently that would see him at the Panthers until 2020.
There has been rumours of off-field drama between Griffin, players and boss Phil Gould through social media and mainstream media in 2018.
If the reports are correct, Griffin leaves the club with the second best coaching record with a 58% win record from 72 matches in charge.ย Only Ron Willey with 66% is above him.ย Gould’s record as coach in the 1990’s was 56%.
Since the Panthers win against the Dragons at home their record has been four wins from eight matches, conceding a massive 50-18 loss just three weeks ago.ย The last two weeks they’ve trailed against teams outside the top 8 and miraculously got out of jail.
Penrith travel to the Gold Coast on Saturday in a game which could see them head into the top four.
