A big weekend for the Intrust Super Cup Round 17 as the competition heads over to Stradbroke Island for its annual match, which headlines another great round of games.

The competition also goes on the road to Barcaldine as the Capras take on the Souths Logan Magpies, among five big games on the Saturday.

Thereโ€™s a rare Friday game in Mackay as Ipswich visit the Cutters. And thereโ€™s no Sunday fixture in Queensland as the only fixture on Sunday is in Port Moresby between the Hunters and Redcliffe.

With the competition lead swapping the last two weeks, what price a third consecutive change, and what will happen in the midfield pack covered by 2 points?

All of that and more awaits from the Intrust Super Cup Round 17 this weekend.

OVER TO STRADBROKE ISLAND FOR THE FLOCKBUSTER

There are a few great things about this clash for the TV cameras on Saturday afternoon between Wynnum and Tweed Heads. The first is the name of this head to head – The Flockbuster – in deference of both of these sides having the Seagull as their nickname. The second is the location – on Stradbroke Island. This annual clash has been one marked in many a fan’s calendar, so hopefully the weather will be dry, as there have been a few wet games over on the island. Tweed Heads lost last weekend and dropped out of the top six, Wynnum are six points adrift of the finals places, and need to start a winning run very soon to be in the September calculations. No better time to start than in the Flockbuster.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL RETURNS TO MACKAY

Perhaps a new night can bring different luck for the Mackay Cutters, who lost last weekend’s battle of the basement against the Central Capras, so why not try something different like a Friday night game. Both sides really need the win, the Cutters to catch the Capras and climb off the bottom of the ladder, and Ipswich need the two points to stay in the race for the top six. The Jets are currently 11th, but just two points from fifth.

CAPRAS HEAD TO BARCALDINE

Central Capras were able to defeat the Mackay Cutters last weekend in Rockhampton, and in the process moved two points ahead of their rivals for avoiding the wooden spoon. A second straight victory would go a long way to avoiding that come season end. They are a good chance too, as they take on the Souths Logan Magpies who haven’t wonย in their past four games. The Capras also tasted success the last time they took a home game on the road, when the defeated the Northern Pride in Emerald. Souths Logan have slowly lost more players to the Broncos during this Origin period. and are clinging onto a top six spot. Another loss here will see them fall outside the top six with a hard chasing pack behind them, the fact they haven’t already speaks volumes for the first half of their season.

TRUE TEST FOR HUNTERS FINALS AMBITIONS IN PORT MORESBY

The PNG Hunters earned an excellent victory at home last weekend against the Sunshine Coast, with Ase Boas looking truly back up to speed with two tries. The second placed Redcliffe will be even tougher, after they destroyed Wynnum at home last weekend, but the Hunters have quite a good record against them in PNG.. It will probably be a tight low scoring affair, The Hunters with the second worst attack in the competition, and Redcliffe the second best defence. The Hunters need the win to stay in touch with the top six, or will be another Premier that didn’t make the finals the next season.

AROUND THE GROUNDS

Easts Tigers welcome the in-form Northern Pride who arrive and Suzuki Stadium on a run of five straight wins, two of those away from home. The Tigers are down a few of their best due to the Origin affected absentees at the Storm.

Burleigh Bears take on the Norths Devils at Pizzey Park, and when this game was played earlier in the season it was a clash of first v second, and the Devils won. A loss for the Bears could see the lead of the competition change for a third straight week.

Townsville will look to bounce back from their second loss of the season to the Northern Pride, which lost them the competition lead in the process. Sunshine Coast Falcons lost last weekend too in Port Moresby, ending a recent good run of results.
