MATCH SUMMARY

1st Half

No time was wasted in the opening ten minutes with both the Rabbitohs and Titans scoring a try each, levelling the scoreboard at six points apiece. However, a try to Alex Johnston in the 12th minute was the beginning of what was a momentum fuelled first half for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, leaving the Titans with very few opportunities to catch up.

A high completion rate and uninterrupted momentum allowed the Rabbitohs the opportunity to score an additional two tries and a penalty goal before the half time siren sounded. The Titans were down 20 points when going to the sheds. Could they make a second-half comeback?

2nd Half

The Titans took the return from the half time break well after Bryce Cartwright scored in the opening four minutes of the second half. The Titans continued to dominate the game until a costly error at the Rabbitohs’ end that gifted the home team a chance to get back into the game. There was a long back and forth period with a few close calls for both sides, however no new additions to the scoreboard. The Rabbitohs nor the Titans could quite execute their sets to result in a try, despite tireless efforts.

Neither team were overly impressive throughout the second half. Each team scored a singular try, the Titans’ in the opening five minutes and the Rabbitohs in the concluding five. The final try was scored by Dane Gagai in the dying minutes with help from Latrell Mitchell.

GAME HIGHLIGHT

Latrell Mitchell. It wasn’t the most entertaining game, however, Mitchell’s efforts at fullback played a big role in the Rabbitoh’s 20-point victory. Mitchell scored a try for himself while tallying up three try assists that contributed to the eventual 20 point victory for his side.

The 22-year-old joined the South Sydney Rabbitohs at the beginning of the season after a few years with the Roosters. Despite this being an interrupted season, this was dubbed his best performance for his new club. A great effort from the new recruit.
