Ben Flower’s Red Mist (2014)

Whilst this is an extremely negative moment for the sport, Ben Flower’s dismissal in the 2014 Super League Grand Final saw him become the first player to receive a red card in the Old Trafford showpiece. Just one minute and 42 seconds into the contest, Flower clashed with Lance Hohaia off the ball, with the New Zealander pushing Flower after the prop had knocked on. What happened next is unforgivable. A heavy punch floored Hohaia, who now clearly lay unconscious on the ground, only for the Wigan man to follow up with an inexcusable second punch to the temple. Flower was rightly sent off for this horrendous act.
