The NRL has announced Jimmy Barnes will support Gang of Youths as grand final entertainment.
“When we heard the AFL had poached our Barnsey, we had to get him back,” NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said. “We’ve already locked in Gang of Youths, so we’ll get Barnsey to warm the crowd up. Get him to run through the classics.”
After the controversy surrounding Macklemore last year, the NRL were keen to win the fans back.
“Everyone loves Barnsey, he won’t rock the boat like that rapper did,” Greenberg said. “Last time Barnsey played for us with Chisel, we were treated to an amazing grand final between North Queensland and Brisbane. He’s our good luck charm.”
To ensure Barnes has enough preparation, Greenberg will personally fly to Melbourne on Saturday, pick up Barnes after his set at the AFL grand final and travel to Sydney together.
Barnes is excited about the double duty. “I love playing to huge crowds. There’ll be 100,00 on Saturday and about 80,000 on Sunday. It’ll be amazing.”
