The fake news that’s actually fake.
Brisbane’s free (to air) ride with Channel Nine could be in jeopardy.
Channel Nine CEO Hugh Marks has reacted angrily to the Broncos’ embarrassing 59-0 loss to the Sydney Roosters.
“We’ve had a very profitable relationship with the Broncos, but enough is enough,” said Marks.
Instead of their scheduled Broncos games, Nine will air back-to-back repeats of their mega-rating reality show Married at First Sight from next week.
“We’re not even going to transfer the Broncos games to Gem. That’s how serious we are,” said Marks. “I don’t care how much the fans complain; they can either watch MAFS or find somewhere else to watch their team lose. All our other non-Broncos Thursday, Friday and Sunday games stay the same though.”
Marks said there is a way back to Nine for the Broncos.
“If they learn to play footy, then we may reconsider. They’ve got to be consistently strong wins against decent teams though. Beating the Bulldogs, Titans or Dragons doesn’t count.”
Broncos coach Anthony Seibold says Nine’s move is a reality check.
“Our relationship with Nine is a vital part of our success. We’d better start winning soon, or we’ll end up like the Warriors with no free-to-air TV coverage at all.”
