The fake news that’s actually fake.

After 20 years as the Sydney Roosters, the Eastern Suburbs Roosters will return in 2021.

“We still identity as Easts on social media and on some of our club gear, so it makes sense to return for good.  The whole reason we changed was because the ARL was terrified of the comp being stuck in suburban Sydney, but that didn’t really work out, did it?’ said Roosters Chairman Nick Politis.

While the NRL wanted to compromise and change the name to ‘Eastern Sydney’, Politis wasn’t having a bar of it.

“It was a return to the Eastern Suburbs or nothing,” said Politis. “I’m used to getting my way; just ask Sonny Bill.”

Their logo will also change, with the traditional ‘red rooster’ replacing the current Sydney Roosters logo.

“We’re excited by this change” said Politis. “Not only do we return to our 90-odd year history as Easts, but we’ll make a killing on merchandise over the off-season. It’s a great way to celebrate our inevitable premiership hat-trick.”
