The fake news that’s actually fake.
Frustrated by the criticism after the first finals weekend, veteran referee Bill Harrigan is making a special return for the remaining 2017 finals.
“I’m sick and tired of the hopeless referees and Bunker literally killing our great game. The AFL is flogging us with their crowd numbers and the punters think our game is rigged. It’s a bad look,” said Harrigan.
Harrigan will referee next weekend’s semi-finals, the preliminary finals and the grand final, donating his game fees to charity.
“I don’t care about the money, I got plenty. I do care about saving our game from Archer’s dangerously incompetent mob.”
Harrigan will referee the next five games under a few conditions: he’s the only on-field referee and the Bunker will not be used.
“The Bunker has become a crutch for referees too scared to make a call. I’m experienced and confident enough to make a ruling on-field. I’m sure the fans will appreciate my direct approach.”
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg welcomes Harrigan’s return, “I’m relieved Bill put his hand up. It got so bad last weekend KFC threatened to pull their sponsorship deal. We can’t afford to lose that sweet fast food money.”
