The fake news that’s actually fake.

With the footy finals nearing its climax, it’s easy to forget about Mad Monday.

The Forward Pass fearlessly went undercover to judge the top five Mad Monday costumes.

Jordan Rapana and BJ Leilua as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman

Like the beloved Breaking Bad protagonists, “Leipana” quickly forged a partnership for the ages. Like Walter and Jesse, “Leipana” isn’t always pretty, but it’s always memorable. While “Leipana” substitue meth-making for try scoring, at their best they’re magical, just like Walter and Jesse.

Jarryd Hayne as Dexter Morgan

The once-popular anti-hero (with eight novels and an eight-season TV series) faded after a sour ending. Hayne was the darling of the NRL in the first decade of the noughties and everyone cheered him as he chased his NRL dream. Then things went downhill, with Hayne blamed for Laurie Daley and Neil Henry’s sackings. Like Dexter, Hayne appears to be doing a good dead by offing the “bad guys” (any coach who dares get in his way), but his selfish routine gets old quickly.

Robbie Farah as Gonzo the Great

Like the strange blue Muppet, Farah is misunderstood. Is the odd nose, his perceived vendetta against coaches or his underwhelming start at Souths? It’s probably the nose. Like Gonzo, nobody knows what the hell Farah’s meant to be doing on the field.

Daly-Cherry Evans as the Loch Ness Monster

It’s rumoured the enigmatic, long-necked mythical creature only appears at Brookvale Oval when Manly fans throw him $3.50.

The Forward Pass is a fictional and deliberately ridiculous look at the NRL. References to real people is for satirical purposes only.
