Mathematically the Cowboys can still make the eight, but they haven’t won since May 28 when Valentine Holmes’ field goal got them home against the Warriors.

They could provide some nuisance value to fellow final eight aspirants in Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons.

Perhaps Tom Dearden might be able to sing the winners song before the season is out? In 13 appearances this season (with the Broncos and Cowboys) he has only won once, back in Round Three when Brisbane beat the Bulldogs.
