Vale James Ackerman

It is with greatย sadness to hear of the passing of Sunshine Coast Falcons prop James Ackerman, gone too soon at the age of 25.

I am shocked, saddened and lost for words following the news.

In such a short time James achieved so much in rugby league. ย Part of the Brisbane Broncos club with their Under 20’s side in 2009 alongside Dale Copley, Dane Gagai, Tariq Sims and Corey Norman. ย Fifty-four game veteran of Intrust Super Cup, most with Redcliffe Dolphins.

Once again the Queensland Rugby League community unite in grief. ย It’s been a testing last fortnight for the game north of the border after Grant Giessย tragicallyย passed away also at the age of 25.

These dark times can only bring the rugby league family closer together.

NothingButLeagueย reported yesterday that Ackerman was in hospital after a serious injury.

The Ackerman family have released a statement (courtesy of QRL.com)

Firstly we would like to thank all the medical staff from Norths Devils/Sunshine Coast Falcons and the ambulance staff who attended to James on game day at Bishop Park.

We want to thank the tireless medical staff from Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, who kept us informed during the night. We are very grateful to the doctors and nurses from the hospital.

All his former teammates and his former clubs for coming and seeing James. Your support has been overwhelming during this difficult time

James loved the game of rugby league, he always played the game with his heart on his sleeve. We will miss you!

Tributes have flooded in for James Ackerman

Our deepest condolences are with the Ackerman family and friends, and the Sunshine Coast Falcons club at this time of sadness.
