Warrington Wolves have confirmed the signing of highly sought-after forward Matt Davis on a two year deal from Championship side London Broncos.
The transfer, which will go through at the end of the current season, will allow the 21-year old second-rower to link back up with Wolves assistant coach Andrew Henderson, who coached the youngster up until his departure from the club at the end of last season.
Davis made 58 appearances for the Broncos in total, having started his career playing amateur rugby at Leicester Storm. He is one of a number of talented forwards to join Super League from the lower divisions, and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Leigh prop Chris Hill, who is now captain at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Warrington Head Coach Steve Price was delighted with the move, saying: “Matt’s a guy who plays the game tough.
He’s a grafter and does all the little things well in the game of Rugby League. He has really impressed me with his attitude and comes with a big rap from Andrew Henderson who coached him at London Broncos. He is only young and has a lot of good football years ahead of him as he becomes more educated in the game.”
Davis added: “I wanted to test myself in a different set up and a different environment and, after talking to Steve Price and Andrew Henderson, Warrington really appealed to me.”
The Wolves’ latest addition will join up with the Wolves at the end of the season, alongside fellow new recruit Jason Clark.
