Super League’s bottom side Widnes Vikings have confirmed the sacking of head coach Denis Betts after eight season at the club.
During his time at the club, Betts helped the club re-establish themselves in the top flight after they were awarded a Super League licence ahead of the 2012 season.
His highest league position was achieved in 2016, when the Vikings competed in the Super 8’s, having finished seventh at the end of the regular season.
However, after finishing in last place in 2017 before surviving relegation in The Qualifiers, Widnes find themselves at the bottom of the pile once again this season and have lost 12 of their 15 games. They were also knocked out of the Challenge Cup earlier this month by the Leeds Rhinos.
In a short message on their website, Widnes thanked Betts for his contributions during his time at the Halton Stadium and announced that a full statement will be released in due course.
