The NSW Blues steal the first Women’s State of Origin with a try in the dying moments.

It looked like it would be a tough match for NSW after the loss of Corban McGregor in the first five minutes with a dislocated shoulder. However, it was only a few minutes later that the Blues got their first try. A slick back-line play through Sam Bremner and Maddison Studdon saw Isabelle Kelly make a break and get over the line. Studdon successfully converted from the sideline.

Moments later Queensland struck back, when a penalty saw Brittany Breayley send Karina Brown over the try line in the short side corner. The scores were level when Chelsea Baker slotted the conversion over from the sideline.

Poor ball handling and errors had the scoreline staying 6-all going into half-time, but there was a marked improvement after the break which saw both teams score in the early stages.

Nakia-Davis Welsh crossed first, with Bremner assisting again and Studdon missing the goal. The Maroons hit back shortly after, when a dummy from Ali Brigginshaw saw Brown go over for a double.

The match was all square until the dying minutes, when Isabelle Kelly scored out wide.

Kelly was named Woman of the Match for her classy performance.
