Gareth O’Brien’s Million Pound drop goal (2016)

Last year’s grand finalist’s Salford were just minutes away from suffering relegation from Super League back in 2016, needing to overturn an eight-point deficit in the Million Pound Game against Hull KR.

However, two tries at the death from Niall Evalds and Greg Johnson, the latter scoring with the final play in normal time sensationally brought the teams level and sent the game into golden point extra-time.

Just one minute into the extra period, Gareth O’Brien attempted an audacious drop-goal from close to the half way line which silenced the home supporters and handed the Red Devils a 19-18 victory to complete a miraculous turnaround which also ended Rovers 10-year stay in Super League.
