Daniel Zealey previews the 2019 grand finalists, Salford hosting league leaders Wigan Warriors in round seven of the Betfred Super League. is what we have to look forward to.
FORM LINE
Salford Red Devils
Many expected it to be a tough season for the Red Devilโs after last seasons exploits and losing key players. With one win from their opening six matches, itโs been a tough start for Ian Watsonโs side.
Their only victory game in round two when they beat the bottom side, Toronto Wolfpack, who are yet to register a Super League win.ย
Salford sit 10th in the league.
Wigan
Wigan have impressed in the opening six rounds with five victories. A round two defeat to Castleford has been the only blip so far. Their only other away match apart from Castleford was a mighty impressive 42-10 over the Huddersfield Giants.
Wigan are top of the league after seven matches.
SQUAD NEWS
Salford
Salford head coach Ian Watson makes one change to his 21 man squad. Josh Johnson replaces Jack Ormondroyd.
Wigan
Adrian Lam makes two changes as a result of suspension. Oliver Partington and Ben Flower are replaced by James McDonnell and Harry Rushton.
KEY STAT
Salford have only defeat Wigan once in the last ten meetings between the two sides. That victory came in their last meeting which was the playoffs, in which the Red Devils ran out 28-4 winners before losing to St Helens in the Grand Final.
The last time Salford defeated Wigan at the AJ Bell stadium was on April 6th 2015, with Salford running out 24-18 victors. Full back Niall Evalds scored twice.
BATTLE TO WATCH
The key battle will revolve around the half backs, with former Red Devil Jackson Hastings playing well, meanwhile Tui Lolohea looking to lead Salford to their second win of the season.
The 2019 Man of Steel winner Jackson Hastings has got off to a great start with Wigan. Playing along side Bevan French, Hastings has three tries and eight try assists. Hastings is a good player, who is key to Wigan’s attack. With a good kicking game and not scared to attack the line.
Lolohea made the switch from Leeds last season and seemed to flourish making the switch to the Greater Manchester club. Alongside Kevin Brown, the Salford side are yet to hit the ground running this season. However, Lolohea likes to attack the line and could have a big say on the match.
