St Helens lead the way after two rounds of the 2025 Super League season.

Round 2 Results

Wakefield Trinity 12-14 Hull KR (8,065 Attendance)ย

Following a well-deserved win in round 1, Wakefield drew a sellout crowd to the DIY Kitchens Stadium for the opening game of round 2 on Thursday night. The game repaid the fans in full, however, going down to the wire after a closely contested first half (2-6) that saw Tom Davies fortuitously gather and score after a 5th tackle Mikey Lewis kick hit the crossbar.ย

Rhys Martin added another two from a penalty 10 minutes after the half time break, but Wakefield levelled up shortly after with Tom Johnstone getting on the end of a superlative cutout ball from Max Jowitt, who also slotted the conversion from wide out.

Lewis put KR back in the lead just a few minutes later, scoring to the right of the sticks off the back of a turn under from Elliot Minchella. The lead came at a great cost, however, with the Man of Steel sustaining an ankle injury.

The drama continued and with just over five minutes left Micky McIllorum was sent for ten for high contact and Wakefield made full use of the man advantage with Oliver Pratt producing a sublime finish in the corner through three KR men – but Jowitt couldnโ€™t convert from the touchline and Hull KR held on to win.

Warrington Wolves 18-12 Catalans Dragonsย (11,157)

A fairly eventless first half at the renamed โ€˜Luke Littler Stadiumโ€™ saw Catalans out the gates first with an Artur Mourgue penalty just five minutes in. Warrington then took the lead in the 29th minute through George King capitalising on Catalansโ€™ inability to field a kick, before Matthieu Laguerre muscled his way over from 15 metres out and levelled the scores just shy of half time.ย

The game erupted in the second half with George Williams making a clean break around halfway to then feed Danny Walker to score under the sticks. The home side then extended their lead through Matt Dufty – who suffered severe head-loss earlier in the half – going over on the end of shape down the Wire left edge.

With Warrington comfortably in the lead by 12, they seemingly put the cue in the rack and allowed Laguerre – who was offered to other Super League clubs before the start of the season – to grab a second try and allow Mourgue to cut the final margin to six with his conversion.

Hull FC 4-46 Wigan Warriors (14,751)

The first of three blowouts in round 2, Wigan clearly tinkered with their toothless attack from round 1 and were in control from 20 minutes into the game. First half tries from Jai Field (2), Abbas Miski, and Patrick Mago coupled with three Adam Keighran conversions all but put the game to bed by half time for the Cherry and Whites.

Fortunes looked to have turned for the FC faithful with Lewis Martin getting on the end of a pinpoint cutout ball from Aiden Sezer down the left edge. The eighteen-point deficit lasted less than 10 minutes, before a Hull FC drop out bounced into the hands of Tom Forber to gift Wigan four points. The floodgates then opened, and Wardle, Field, and French all crossed in the final 20 minutes of the game and Adam Keighran converted all to extend the margin to 42 after failing to score a single point the week prior.

Salford Red Devils 6-32 Leeds Rhinos (5,798)

Another wide margin score but an improved effort for the Red Devils this week in their first fixture following the club takeover being ratified. The Salford Community stadium erupted in the second minute with Kallum Watkins crashing over for their first points of the Super League season.

With struggles scoring from hand last week, Leeds made full use of the kicking game to cut the Red Devils lead down to two with Riley Lumb getting on the end of a Jake Connor grubber into the corner. The Rhinos took the lead with another Connor kick ricocheting off the Salford defence into the hands of Morgan Gannon to muscle over.

They extended their lead to eight (6-14) with a slick attack on fifth tackle finished off by Riley Lumb in the 33rd minute before Joe Shorrocks was sent to the bin for high contact at the back end off the half – the contact ultimately resulting in Brodie Croft sustaining a head knock that had him stretchered off.

In addition, Leedsโ€™ Captain Cam Smith didnโ€™t return in the second half but that didnโ€™t stop a Rhinos onslaught that saw Ash Handley, James Bentley, and Ryan Hall cross to extend the winning margin to 26 with two second half conversions from Jake Connor.

Castleford Tigers 6-46 St Helens (7,723)

Another blowout that saw the Saints tally 128 points across the first two rounds. It looked as though it could be one way traffic early on with Saints scoring three tries in the opening fifteen minutes. The most impressive of which came from Jonny Lomax, who gathered a Bennison kick in field to cross for their third.ย

Castleford stemmed the flow, however, and were able to reply with Sylvester Namo producing a muscular effort to run through Joe Batchelor and Matty Lees and make the half time score 6-14 after a Tex Hoy conversion.

That would be it for the Tigers, unfortunately, and some excellent playmaking from Jack Welsby in particular saw them dismantled with Agnatius Paasi, Harry Robertson (2), Alex Walmsley, Jack Welsby, and Jon Bennison all crossing in the second half to run out a 40-point margin.

Leigh Leopards 24-10 Huddersfield Giants (8,440)

Leigh Leopards made it two from two with a well worked victory over Huddersfield Giants at the Leigh Sports Village. A nip and tuck first half saw Keenan Brand score Leighโ€™s first Super League try seven minutes in, before Oliver Wilson scrambled on the end of a Zac Woolford grubber towards the sticks to score for the visitors. George Flanagan converted to put the Giants in the lead and later followed up with a penalty goal in the 36th minute, after which Gareth Oโ€™Brien replied with one of his own to make the half time score 6-8.

Flanagan clipped another penalty over shortly after half time to put the Giants four ahead, but their lead didnโ€™t last long with David Armstrong scoring his first Super League try with blistering pace. A Gareth Oโ€™Brien conversion put the home side in the lead and following that the Leopards continued to press Huddersfield. Errors ultimately told for the away side and afforded Leigh possession at the back end that resulted in tries to Matty Davis and Tesi Niu, sealing a second win for Leigh.
