2021 Warrington Wolves Team Preview

With the season opener just around the corner we look at how Warrington Wolves will go in 2021.

After falling at the first stage of the playoffs last season, Warrington will be looking to go at least one better in 2021 and win a first ever Super League title for the club.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Signings

Greg Inglis (free agent), Robbie Mulhern (Hull KR), Rob Butler (London Broncos).

Departures

Harvey Livett, Declan Patton (both Salford Red Devils), Ben Murdoch-Masila (New Zealand Warriors), Reece Hamlet (Bradford Bulls), Callum Green (Oldham), Anthony Gelling, Leilani Latu (released).

First Five

Castleford Tigers (A), Leigh Centurions (H), Hull FC (A), Catalans Dragons (A), Hull KR (H).

WHAT TO EXPECT

The headline-grabbing addition of Greg Inglis shows Warrington’s ambition clearly hasn’t subsided, and while he may be garnering the attention, their two other signings in the off-season may arguably be more influential. Robbie Mulhern and Rob Butler bolster an already fierce Wolves pack with both players possessing starting quality which will give Steve Price’s side exceptional depth to help them thrive throughout the season.

Inglis, however, brings a wealth of experience and will be a serious danger man if he is able to shake off his injury history and get back to anywhere near his best. He joins a start studded backs division that are already well-positioned to top the league’s points scoring table, being led around the park by an international quality spine of Austin, Ratchford, and Widdop. Expect plenty of points to come through this trio, in particular Blake Austin, who nearly topped the try table for Warrington last season.

Their biggest loss will be the departure of Ben Murdoch-Masila, who was was an explosive impact player for Warrington. The sole upside form his departure and the addition of Butler and Mulhern is the gain in stamina and work rate for the Wolves pack. Expect to see some exceptional rugby from a Wolves set up that exudes quality and who’s coach, Steve Price, will be leaving at the end of the season; they will want to – and have the quality to – send him off in style.
