Andrew Johns will play for NSW in State of Origin III.
Blues coach Laurie Daley called Johns after the eight Immortal’s epic spray on Channel Nine after Origin II.
‘Loz said, “If you think we’re such a dumb team, stick on a jersey and help us out at Lang Park. Mitchell Pearce is useless anyway.”’
Despite not playing in the NRL since 2007, Johns is confident of a trouble-free comeback.
‘The coaching work keeps me fit and I know more about the modern game than anyone, so it should be dead easy.’
Channel Nine plan to exploit Johns’ comeback for maximum ratings.
‘We’re gonna wire Joey up and make him commentate during the game. He’ll give us first-hand insights and have some fun banter with the boys upstairs,’ said Nine CEO Hugh Marks. ‘We’ll show the best bits on The Footy Show the following night.’
Queensland coach Kevin Walters is unconcerned about Joey’s return.
‘It’s actually a pretty good idea. We might even get Alfie to cover for JT in game III.’
