2. The Titans to be the Fairytale Team
After years of struggle, the Gold Coast Titans – led by new coach Justin Holbrook – were one of the standout bottom eight teams in 2020. They won their last five games, beat the Broncos twice, and were unlucky to miss the finals: had it been a regulation season, they surely would’ve leapfrogged the ailing Sharks and Knights.
While the signing of Cameron Smith didn’t eventuate (barring an unlikely 11th hour announcement), they still got some big names in Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and David Fifita.
Even before round one, the Titans are already Queensland’s best team, with Brisbane an absolute rabble, and North Queensland slowly rebuilding post-Johnathan Thurston.
At a minimum, the Titans should make the finals. How far will they go from there? Who knows, but I’m banking on them being 2021s fairytale team regardless.
