3. A Massive Origin Series
Last year’s Origin series was strange: played in November and over three consecutive Wednesday nights rather than over six weeks from May to July. While the Adelaide opener felt a bit flat, the series quickly warmed up in Sydney before a classic decider in Brisbane.
This year’s Origin is back to the normal mid-season slot, with the MCG opener (expect a full house as Victorians have been starved of big sporting events), followed by the usual Sydney and Brisbane games, and a return to a Sunday night game two following the rep round.
The 2021 season will have an intriguing narrative: the unfancied Queenslanders pulled a “Fatty” and upset NSW last year; can they back it up, or will NSW rebound? Will Freddy let Jack Wighton play at five-eighth this time?
