After two great opening matches, round 2 of the NRLW is looking even better than before. Both matches this week feature a team trying to secure an early grand final spot, and the other fighting to keep that dream alive.
Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters
Friday 14th September, 5:15pm
Allianz Stadium
In what will be a match featuring plenty of Jillaroo, NSW and Queensland players, this is set to be a good one. With the Broncos coming off a big win, and the Roosters keen to get their first, it should be close.
Despite having a skilled and tough team, the Roosters struggled against a brilliant Warriors side. While the possible addition of Ruan Sims back from a hamstring injury will boost them, they’ll need to improve their completion rate and attack through the middle to get their first win.
The Broncos were classy against a good Dragons side, but that won’t make this week easy. Their defence was not as strong as it could’ve been, seeing them concede 62 tackle breaks. While it didn’t lead to many points, defence like that would be dangerous against the Roosters speedy backs.
St George Illawarra Dragons vs New Zealand Warriors
Saturday 15th September, 5:10pm
ANZ Stadium
While it’s only round two, this game is a big one for both teams. A win to the Warriors could see them secured into the Grand Final, while a win to the Dragons might put them right back into one of the top spots. With the Warriors side traveling and the Dragons playing before the men’s team, both teams have a point to prove.
While they have a brilliant squad, the Dragons struggled last week in their first game together. Injuries just worsened their luck, though all injured players have been named to return. With experience now under their belt and the possible return of Talesha Quinn, they’ll be ready to bounce back from last weeks loss.
If one game is anything to go by, the Warriors are looking to be serious contenders for the first NRLW title. While there’s been a few minor changes to the team list, continuing their strong defence and kick plays might be difficult for the Dragons to contain.
