The first Women’s State of Origin is only one week away, and is a major stepping stone for women’s rugby league.

What is it?
While NSW and Queenslander have played for the Interstate Cup since 1999, this is the first time it has been held under the State of Origin title. Under the Interstate Cup, Queensland won the first 17 titles, with NSW going back to back in 2016 and 2017.

Why you Should Watch
The match is the perfect opener for the NRLW, with a mix of current state and national representative players, and stand outs from the recent National Challenge.

Who to Watch
While both teams are filled with stars such as Kezie Apps and Kody House, I think that it’ll the players who really stand out will be the ones not yet selected for the NRLW. While all these girls are naturally talented, some of these girls will be wanting to prove themselves for an NRL contact.
NSW half Maddie Studdon will also be a player to watch. It’s her first game in captaincy and I believe the role will improve her game even more.

Who will win?
While they’re without captain and front rower Ruan Sims, I can’t see NSW losing this one. Both teams have strong squads but NSW will want that third one, and it might be just enough to get them a narrow win.

Want to know more?
The game is held at North Sydney Oval on the 22nd of June, with kick off at 7:40pm. The games will be live on 9, Fox and the NRL website. Tickets are still available here
