With a new structure and 29 regular season games, 2019 is set to be a marquee year for Super League. Here’s a quick look at the draw and what to expect.
SEASON KICK OFF
The 2019 Betfred Super League season will begin on the 31st January with arguably the biggest derby….
St Helens will host their closest rivals in 2018 Grand Final winners Wigan Warriors.
WORLD CLUB CHALLENGE
In this year’s World Club Challenge, Wigan Warriors will take on the Sydney Roosters at the DW Stadium. This massive fixture will take place on Sunday 17th February and will kick-off at 7pm.
EASTER SCHEDULE
Good Friday
Good Friday sees a series of massive games played.
Wigan will take on St Helens in the Good Friday derby tradition at the DW and the infamous Hull FC v Hull KR will take place at the KCOM.
Meanwhile, there will be a Yorkshire derby as Wakefield will travel to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle to take on Castleford.
Salford will take on Warrington at the AJ Bell, Huddersfield will do battle against the Rhinos in Leeds and Catalan will face the Broncos in the capital.
Easter Monday
Easter Monday is also a day to look forward for Super League fans.
St Helens will face Hull FC at the Totally Wicked Stadium in a 2018 Challenge Cup Quarter-Final rematch.
Wigan will make the short trip up to face local rivals Salford at the AJ Bell, Huddersfield take on newly-promoted London at home and Catalan will host the Castleford Tigers.
Hull KR will go toe-to-toe with Warrington at KCOM Craven Park and Leeds will travel to Wakefield.
OTHER NOTABLE MATCHES
Hull KR and Hull FC will face each other in the very first Round as the sides are set to renew their rivalry at the home of Hull KR, KCOM Craven Park.
The first Challenge Cup Final rematch will also be early in the season as Warrington will travel to Perpignan to face the Dragons in Round 4.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see a Grand Final rematch. Warrington and Wigan are set to face each other in Round 6 next year at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Castleford will be looking for retribution against St Helens next year, after being eliminated in the 2018 playoffs, but will have to wait till Round 7 where they will face the Saints at home.
The 2017 Grand Final rematch is going to have to wait even longer, with Leeds and Castleford not set to face each other until Round 8 where Leeds will be hosts.
Catalans will have a massive game prior to the Easter period, as they host St Helens in Round 9. Catalans produced a near faultless performance in Bolton last August so can they do it again next year?
After a tough game against Catalans, things don’t get any easier for St Helens as in the following round, they’ll take on their 2018 Semi-Final opponents, Warrington Wolves, and will be looking for a victory, after losing in this stage last year.
Magic Weekend will take in Round 16, almost exactly halfway into the season.
