Preview
One of Super League’s biggest fixtures comes to the AJ Bell Stadium on Tuesday night as Saints look to continue their dominance over their local rivals having won all four matches against Wigan last season.
Saints make two changes from the squad that was beaten by Warrington, with Matty Castello and Joe Batchelor coming in for Mark Percival, who limped off against the Wolves, and Jack Ashworth. Tommy Makinson serves the final game of his five-match ban.
The Warriors have rested a number of key players including Zak Hardaker, Oliver Gildart, Joe Burgess, Bevan French, Tommy Leuluai, Liam Farrell and Sean O’Loughlin ahead of their Challenge Cup semi-final at the weekend. Jake Shorrocks, Joe Bullock and Dom Manfredi return.
Prediction
With Wigan choosing to rest several first-team players, this one appears nailed on for a Saints victory. Kristian Woolf’s men will want to bounce back from defeat against Warrington last time out and should do so in style. Adrian Lam will not want his Wigan side to go down without a fight though and will hope his young side can do the club proud albeit against the odds.
