The Rabbitohs held off a late Cowboys comeback to win in a Saturday night thriller.

After an early penalty goal to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the now third-placed North Queensland Cowboys kicked off their night in perfect fashion with a try to Murray Taulagi, which saw Scott Drinkwater and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow combine brilliantly to lay on the try for the winger down the right-hand side of the field. The Rabbitohs didnโ€™t take long to strike back with a try of their own, subsequently taking the lead. It was a nice move down the right hand side with halfback Lachlan Ilias holding the ball up for just the right amount of time before passing a crash ball to Keaon Koloamatangi who burst through a gaping hole and proved too much to stop as he scored Southsโ€™ first of the night.

The Cowboys kept the pressure on Souths, keeping them well in their own half and when the Rabbitohs managed to move the football down the field they capitalised. It was none other than Alex Johnston who scored his 28th try of the season thanks to a shift down the left edge.

The second half started with a few errors from both sides with the Rabbitohs holding an eight-point lead. That was until the Cowboys brought it to within two with a brilliant individual try from Kyle Feldt. Feldt received the ball out wide from Chad Townsend and put a kick in behind Johnston, he then followed through and kicked it again before grounding it to rev the Cowboys fans up.

However, it would all go south for the Cowboys with Coen Hess and Feldt sin binned in the 73rd and 76th minutes respectively. It left the Rabbitohs with a two-man overlap and they put the game to bed in the 78th minute with a try to Thomas Burgess.
