Despite the Knights’ terrible form, they opened up the better of the two teams and scored early doors with Edrick Lee crossing just under two minutes in.

The home side answered soon after through Greg Marzhew who got on the end of a masterful kick from AJ Brimson, taking the lead and continued to press, eventually extending the lead just over 10 minutes in. Newcastle replied through Daniel Saifiti muscling his way over from short range.

It wasn’t long, however, before David Fifita crossed with an incisive line close to the Newcastle line to put the home side ahead. Daniel Saifiti answered the try with a muscular effort of his own and barged over from close range just over halfway through the first half.

Gold Coast took hold of the game after Beau Fermor hit a great line through the left edge to score and Marzhew followed up with a try of his own. The Knights couldn’t handle the Titans’ onslaught and Tanah Boyd added insult to injury, slicing through the left edge off the back of an offload.

Newcastle appeared somewhat revitalised after the break and Dom Young got the visitors back on the board with an exquisite finish down the Newcastle right edge. Gold Coast all but sealed the win soon after with AJ Brimson getting on the end of a Brian Kelly break to cross to the left of the sticks. Somewhat living off the momentum of his assist, Kelly illegally drove Young into the ground and was sent for the rest of the game.

Gold Coast continued to press, however, and Brimson followed up with another exceptional finish after a grubber under the sticks to extend the home sideโ€™s league.

Dane Gagai finished a concerted effort from the Knights to come back with a brace late on to cut the margin to 10 points to the Titans.
