Warrington Wolves Vs Salford Red Devils

Date: 02/03/23, Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT, Venue: The Halliwell Jones Stadium

Warrington Wolves 21-Man Squad: Matt Dufty, Josh Thewlis, Peter Mataโ€™utia, Stefan Ratchford, Matty Ashton, George Williams, Josh Drinkwater, James Harrison, Daryl Clark, Paul Vaughan, Ben Currie, Sam Kasiano, Danny Walker, Tom Mikaele, Joe Bullock, Greg Minikin, Tom Whitehead, Luke Thomas, Leon Hayes, Adam Holroyd, Jack Darbyshire.

Salford Red Devils 21-Man Squad: Ryan Brierley, Ken Sio, Kallum Watkins, Tim Lafai, Joe Burgess, Brodie Croft, Marc Sneyd, Jack Ormondroyd, Andy Ackers, King Vuniyayawa, Sam Stone, Oliver Partington, Chris Atkin, Tyler Dupree, Shane Wright, Adam Sidlow, Ellis Longstaff, Amir Bourouh, Rhys Williams, Matt Costello, Deon Cross.

If you’d have asked me to talk about this game after round one, I’d given you a different answer. I was really disappointed in Salford last week. In a game against a handy Hull KR side, but one who was without a few key players and playing away from home, Salford should be looking at that one as a win. After a drag of a first half, Salford just felt apart win the second and fell short. It’s not exactly time to panic, but as a team who want to solidify the play-offs, they have to be winning those types of games.

As for Warrington, I was once again surprised with not only their win at Huddersfield, but how they played. They led throughout the whole game and never seemed likely to lose that lead. It was a more impressive win that theirs in round one and one I think they will build upon here. George Williams is already looking on form and an early candidate to watch out for, for the Man of Steel. It’s been a great start for Wire and I think they’ll continue their 100% record this week.

Prediction: Warrington by 10 points

Catalan Dragons Vs Hull FC

Date: 03/03/23, Kick-off Time: 18:00 GMT, Venue: Stade Gilbert Brutus

Catalan Dragons 21-Man Squad: Arthur Mourge, Tomย Davies, Adam Keighran, Matthieu Laguerre, ย Tyrone May, Mikeย McMeeken, Mickyย McIlorum, Julian Bousquet, Paul Sรฉguier, Benjamin Garcia,ย Mickaelย Goudemand,ย Romain Navarrete, Cรฉsarย Rougรฉ,ย Tiaki Chan,ย Arthur Romano, Siuaย Taukeiaho,ย Jordan Dezaria,ย Tomย Johnstone, Bastienย Scimone, Manu Maโ€™u, Ugo Tison.

Hull FC 21-Man Squad: Tex Hoy, Adam Swift, Liam Sutcliffe, Darnell McIntosh, Jake Clifford, Ligi Sao, Danny Houghton, Chris Satae, Andre Savelio, Jordan Lane, Brad Fash, Joe Lovodua, Joe Cator, Kane Evans, Cam Scott, Ben McNamara, Jack Brown, Josh Griffin, Davy Litten, Jamie Shaul, Brad Dwyer.

For me, this is going to be one of the tighter games of the week. Both sides are at 100%-win rate after two rounds, but neither have been convincing in either of their games. Both are struggling with injuries for sure, and that alone makes both of their results so far, impressive. Most would always favour Catalan in their home games, but I feel Hull FC have a bit more about them in attack this season and the likes of Tex Hoy, Max Clifford and Liam Sutcliffe have ben influential so far for them.

As for Catalan, they got over the line against a poor Wakefield side and had more of a battle last week against Leigh, but their defence is where I think they lose this game. I don’t believe there will be much in the game (cue a side winning by 20), and I think it’s going to take either sides star players to make the game by the scruff of the neck and produce some magic. It’s a real shame hey don’t televise the Dragons how games anymore, as this one could be a cracker.

Prediction: Hull FC by 4 points

Wakefield Trinity Vs Huddersfield Giants

Date: 03/03/23, Kick-off Time: 19:45 GMT, Venue: Be Well Support Stadium

Wakefield Trinity 21-Man Squad: Jorge Taufua, Corey Hall, Lee Gaskell, Mason Lino, Eddie Battye, Liam Hood, Jai Whitbread, Matty Ashurst, Jay Pitts, Jordy Crowther, Liam Kay, Renouf Atoni, Lee Kershaw, Kevin Proctor, Morgan Smith, Samisoni Langi, Rob Butler, Lewis Murphy, Sam Eseh, Dane Windrow.

Huddersfield Giants 21-Man Squad: Jermaine McGillvary, Esan Marsters, Jake Bibby, Tui Lolohea, Theo Fages, Chris Hill, Nathan Peats, Joe Greenwood, Josh Jones, Chris McQueen, Luke Yates, Ashton Golding, Matty English, Owen Trout, Adam Oโ€™Brien, Olly Wilson, Leroy Cudjoe, Harvey Livett, Olly Russell, Nathan Mason, Will Pryce.

Wakefield is in a real pickle already. Joint favourites to go down, and they haven’t done much to show they will do otherwise so far this season. Last week they got pumped 60-0 at Wigan. While losing to Wigan is no shock, it was they effort and lack thereof through the game. They looked lost for ideas, with Lino running side to side looking for options and the rest of the squad not seeming to know what plan they had been sent out with. It was a real horror show for Applegarth’s men.

As for Huddersfield, I fancied them to start with a win, but it seems they got caught cold and where comfortably beaten by an impressive Warrington side. Giants showed glimpses of what they can do, especially in attack and I think they will show a bit more of that in this game. I can’t see anything other than a Giants win here and it’ll take Trinity to improve by 100% and Ian Watson’s squad to have a real shocker for there to be any other result this week. Banker of the week.

Castleford Tigers Vs Wigan Warriors

Date: 03/03/23, Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT, Venue: The Mend-A-Hose Jungle

Castleford Tigers 21-Man Squad: Niall Evalds, Greg Eden, Jordan Turner, Mahe Fonua, Bureta Faraimo, Gareth Widdop, Jacob Miller, George Lawler, Paul McShane, George Griffin, Kenny Edwards, Alex Mellor, Joe Westerman, Nathan Massey, Adam Milner, Albert Vete, Muizz Mustapha, Daniel Smith, Suaia Matagi, Cain Robb, Liam Watts.

Wigan Warriors 21-Man Squad: Jai Field, Bevan French, Toby King, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Cade Cust, Harry Smith, Brad Singleton, Sam Powell, Liam Byrne, Willie Isa, Liam Farrell, Morgan Smithies, Mike Cooper, Kaide Ellis, Ethan Havard, Kai Pearce-Paul, Patrick Mago, Brad Oโ€™Neill, Abbas Miski, Junior Nsemba.

This is another tricky game to predict this week. Now despite both sides’ performances being so far apart on round two, Tigers always seem to up their game when Wigan come to town. Wigan have won here in their last two trips to the jungle, and the Tigers haven’t actually beaten Wigan since 2020, which was six meetings ago. However, I always see Castleford away as a real tough game and if you’re not on point, you can get punished very quickly, and very easily by their slick attack.

However, Mamo is a big loss for the Tigers in their attacking threat this week. As for Wigan, they go into this on the back of an 11 try battering over Wakefield and will be full of confidence going into this one. I do think Wigan win, but only if they are up for the fight. They lost in round one down the middles and won comfortably in round two using their quality out wide. They need to find a mix of both to push forward and I think they’ll have too much for Tigers this week.

Prediction: Wigan by 10 points

Hull KR Vs Leigh Leopards

Date: 03/03/23, Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT, Venue: Craven Park

Hull KR 21-Man Squad: Lachlan Coote, Ethan Ryan, Tom Opacic, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Ryan Hall, Jordan Abdull, Sauaso Sue, Matt Parcell, George King, Frankie Halton, Kane Linnett, Elliot Minchella, Jez Litten, Rhys Kennedy, James Batchelor, Will Dagger, Mikey Lewis, Rowan Milnes, Sam Wood, Luis Johnson, Sam Luckley.

Leigh Leopards 21-Man Squad: Zak Hardaker, Tom Briscoe, Ed Chamberlain, Ricky Leutele, Josh Charnley, Joe Mellor, Lachlan Lam, Tom Amone, Edwin Ipape, Robbie Mulhern, Joe Wardle, Jack Hughes, John Asiata, Ben Nakubuwai, Ben Reynolds, Gareth Oโ€™Brien, Matt Davis, Jacob Gannon, Kai Oโ€™Donnell, Ava Seumanufagai, Joe Shorrocks.

Hull KR are one of the stronger sides in the league so far. I think a lot of people are sleeping on them, me included. They have won both their games and looked very good for their wins too. I think last week’s win at Salford was more impressive for me, as they did that without some key players, away at a fellow play off rival side. They won by 14 points in the end and good for it too. They do look a different prospect this year and have a big squad to choose from.

Leigh have been unlucky so far. They seemed the best side in their opener for periods, but struggled to take the lead or look to kill games off with chances they create. In round two, it was reported as a real battle where Leigh held their own. Not many sides go to Catalan and come away with wins, so I don’t think it’s one they would have picked to get the two points. This is another tough outing for them and when you look at their run to come, it’s tough to see when their first win arrives.

Prediction: Hull KR by 8 points

St Helens Vs Leeds Rhinos

Date: 03/03/23, Kick-off Time: 20:00 GMT, Venue: Totally Wicked Stadium

St Helens 21-Man Squad: Jack Welsby, Tommy Makinson, Mark Percival, Jon Bennison, Jonny Lomax, Lewis Dodd, Alex Walmsley, Matty Lees, Sione Mataโ€™utia, Morgan Knowles, Joey Lussick, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Curtis Sironen, Jake Wingfield, James Bell, Dan Norman, Ben Davies, Sam Royle, Konrad Hurrell, Tee Ritson, George Delaney

Leeds Rhinos 21-Man Squad: Richie Myler, David Fusitu’a, Nene MacDonald, Ash Handley, Blake Austin, Aidan Sezer, Kruise Leeming, Zane Tetevano, James Bentley, Rhyse Martin, Cameron Smith, Jarrod O’Connor, Sam Lisone, Derrell Olpherts, Justin Sangare, Tom Holroyd, James McDonnell, Sam Walters, Liam Tindall, James Donaldson, Jack Sinfield.

You couldn’t get two teams whose fortunes are so far apart in round three. After lifting the World Club Challenge in Australia, the Saints came home, travelled to Castleford, and began their season with an impressive win. While they were second best for the majority of the first half, and any other side may well have punished them, they stuck in there, scored when they could, then grabbed full control of the game in the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Once again, Leeds lost, albeit with a little more effort and quality against Hull FC, they still didn’t have enough and I’m sure their fans are growing a little concerned as they head to the reigning Champions, a place where they have not won at since 2018, losing their last eight trips to the Totally Wicked Stadium. While Saints aren’t at full speed yet and will still be feeling the WCC match, it would take something special from Leeds to make this match anything more than a comfortable night for Saints.

Prediction: St Helens by 18 points
