DOMINANT WIGAN BEAT DEWSBURY

Wigan Warriors showedย their Super League class, in what was a very comfortable afternoon in the Dewsbury sunshine.

Fielding their strongest side in weeks, Wigan where dominant from the get go. The sides previously met back in 2014 when Wigan beat Dewsbury 58-6 in the 4th round of the Challenge Cup.

The Warriors looked in no mood to give Dewsbury a chance with the ball, as they scored try after try in the first half.

WIGAN STROLL IN THE SUN

I can imagine before the game, Coach Glenn Morrison would’ve told his lads to complete their first set and don’t concede early. Well, after just 20 minutes, Wigan led by 24-0 and it seemed like Dewsbury couldn’t getย the ball in their hands.

The left hand side of Wigan, consisting of Charnley and Gildart was outstanding today. Scoring 4 tries between them and the pair was simply too hot to handle for the Rams. Charnley alone, scored 22 points in the game.

Wigan looked to win the game in the opening half with try after try and got their wish by goingย into half time, 36-4 up without really breaking sweat.

BETTER HALF FROM THE RAMS

The second half started as the first finished. Wigan scored 2 tries in just 3 minutes of the half starting. However, they would only score one more in the game.

Dewsbury started to hit big and cause a few errors in the Wigan attacks. While never really threatening the Wigan line, they defended much better as a teamย to keep Wigan out.

Paul Sykes was the only Dewsbury player who really looked to create things for the Rams. Sykes scored the only points for Dewsbury and was their best player on the day.

VIEW OF THE MANAGERS

Morrison seemed in good spirits after seeing his side lose big. Morrisonย said:

“They showed respect by putting out probably their strongest side this year and were just too good in the first half.”

“We got some line breaks and came close to scoring a couple of times and we have some things to work on next week.”

Wigan coach Shaun Wane seemed happy about the first half and being able to rest a few late on. Wane said:

“This is not the easiest place to come. I’m happy with that score.

“We protected a lot of players in the second half with Friday’s game against Hull in mind.

“We went a bit sloppy in the last quarter and could have been a bit smarter.”

IN THE SHEDS

This was a game that was played at a fast pace in the first half, but slowed down real quick in the second. There wasn’t any injuries that have been reported by either side as of yet.

There was a couple of bad tackles made in the game, mostly by Wigan forward, Taulima Tautai. Nothing was put on report duringย the game.

Wigan where able to rest a lot of players in the second half and slowed the pace down dramatically, to try and avoid any injuries.
