Week 1 of the Intrust Super Cup has concluded with most of this year’s fancied teams opening up their seasons with victories.

There was one draw on the opening weekend, as the two Melbourne Stormย feeder clubs couldn’t be split.

And the Intrust Super Cup Round 1 was a good one for the away sides, as 5 of the 7 games went to the visitors.

The opening game ended in a draw between the Sunshine Coast Falcons and the Easts Tigers as a 74th Tigers field goal was answered 3 minutes later by the Falcons in a low scoring game with only a try a piece.

The two Central Queensland sides both lost at home, as Northern Pride comfortably beat Mackay 24-4 in the first game of the Foley Shield. The Central Capras went down to the PNG Hunters, but took the game right to them in a game full of penalties and errors.

Redcliffe took revenge on their Grand Finals foesย Burleigh Bears with a good win at Dolphin Oval to open the season.

The other three Sunday games went to the away sides, as Wynnum beat Souths Logan 17-4, Ipswich Jets were too strong for Tweed Heads 34-6, and Townsville had to work hard against Norths Devils but ultimately won 18-16.
