The second round of the Intrust Super Cup has been completed, and three of the favourites for the premiership in Redcliffe, PNG Hunters and Townsville have started the season the best way possible by registering a second straight win. One other team, Wynnum Seagullsย also remainsย unbeaten.

At the other end of the ladder, there’s noย points yet for any side from the Gold Coast or the Central Capras.

A quick run down of all the games are below, but follow the links for full results and match reviews when they come.

The weekendย started off at Pizzey Parkย as the Burleigh Bears lost to the Norths Devils.ย The Devilsย proved their close loss to the Blackhawks in Week One was no one-off as they scored early and led from the front all afternoon against the reigning premiers who have started the year with two straight losses.

Souths Logan Magpies won their first game of the season as they saw off the Falcons. The Magpies led 12-0 at the break, and the teams traded tries from 65th minute, but the 22-12 result left the Sunshine Coast with just 1 point to show from two home games to start the season.

There was no Benji Marshall as had been rumoured in Rockhampton on Saturday night, but it mattered little to the result Redcliffe easily beat the Central Capras, in a 8 tries to 4 win. It was an almost case of doubles all round as 5 players from both the Dolphins and Capras scored doubles on the night.

Wynnumย became one of four unbeaten sides as theย Seagulls defeated the Northern Pride in a close one. In the end a late penalty goal was the difference as a late Pride fight back fell just short. The other Seagulls suffered a second consecutive loss asย Mackay registered a big win over Tweed Heads in Mackayย .ย Tweed Heads have now scored just 12 points in the first two games and sit bottom of the Intrust Super Cup ladder.ย The big win will be a huge boost for Mackay after a poor 2016.

The TV game on Sunday afternoon proved as entertaining as one could have hoped for as the Townsville Blackhawks defeated the Ipswich Jets in a high scoring, high-octane clash. Townsville got the better of Ipswich with former local favourite Carlin Anderson playing a big part in the win for the visitors. Try scoring machine Michael Purcell continued his rich run with another two tries but it wasn’t enough.

Port Moresby hosted their first game of the season andย  the Hunters returned to winning ways in PNG against the Easts Tigers. It took until the 50th minute for the Tigers to get on the board, and by then the Hunters were 18-0 up. Despite a late flurry of tries, the PNG side were too far ahead.
