Leigh got their first win of the season against newly promoted Oldham with a nine try victory which came a week after a shock defeat to Batley in round one. A Sam Hopkins 13 minute hat-rick after coming off the bench which was also part of five tries in 17 minutes took life out of the game and confirmed the result.

Winger Jonny Pownall crossed for the first try in the 11th minute despite it looking like Jake Emmitt had scored, the try was awarded to Pownall. The scores were quickly levelled as Thomas Ashton crossed just four minutes later and the roughyeds took the lead as Lewis Palfrey converted the try. The visitors held the lead for eight minutes but that was when the powerful Leigh side started playing more expansive rugby and scored three tries before the break.

Ex Leeds Rhinos player and debutant Lee Smith crossed from the full back position and Adam Higson crossed twice for a 20-6 lead at the break.

The try scoring carried on in the second half as Sam Hopkins crossed for the first three tries of the half for his 13 minute hat-rick. International forward Fui Fui Moi Moi and Reni Maitua who was on his home debut crossed in consecutive sets to see the Centurions score 44 consecutive points with no reply.

The home side then seemed to take their foot of the gas and Oldham managed to take full advantage crossing the whitewash for the final two tries as Adam Clay and Lewis Palfrey got their names on the scoresheet to make the score a little more respectable.

Leigh will look to continue their winning ways as they welcome London Broncos to the LSV and Oldham will be looking for their first win as they welcome Dewsbury to Bower Field.
