The National Rugby League looks on track to return on May 28, with government clearances at both state and federal level to allow non-New South Wales sides to travel between borders.

Later in the week it looked like any return was on hold after a group of players, led by Cameron Smith, were vocal in wanting to know what cash they’d receive in 2020 before they started training this coming Monday.

The stance seems laughable considering the high unemployment rate thanks to COVID-19. Some comments on social media questioned whether the players are just being sooks.

It will be one weird season. Twenty rounds, the NRL finals and then State of Origin. Hopefully crowds can return by the time the finals are played.

Could the season get any crazier, with the NRL Grand Final to be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium?

This year’s decider is set down for the Sydney Cricket Ground after an agreement with the New South Wales Government.

Now that Todd Greenberg’s gone, could the door open for Brisbane to host the big game?
