3. Hirst Hits Out at RFL Minimum Salary Change
It’s been a big week at the Rugby Football League Headquarters.
After being granted a ยฃ16million loan from the UK Government, the governing body have removed the ยฃ15,000 minimum wage for those who are on the fringe of playing in the first team.
Current Halifax player Keegan Hirst has hit out at the RFL’s handling of the issue.
What RL says-We care about our players current and future mental/physical welfare
What RL does- Slashes wages of young players, zero consultation with players, people told to train on furlough, tells players 3 games a week isnโt an issue, threatens non-compliance with redundancy

Potentially this could leave a generation of young rugby league players leaving the game. This would be a massive blow for the national side after making great strides internationally over recent years.
Maybe there’s a lot to be said for the Players Association in the UK. In Australia there seems to be more clout with looking after the players’ interests with the governing body.
