Vale Grant Giess (1989-2015)

The Intrust Super Cup community has been shocked by the death of Easts Tigers halfback Grant Giess at the age of 25.

Queensland newspaper CourierMail has reported that Giess had a night out with friends in Brisbane on Friday night and when he failed to arrive at home early Saturday morning, police were contacted.  His body found on Saturday.

Back in 2013 Giess spent some time with the Melbourne Storm in pre-season.  At the time Tigers coach Craig Ingebrigtsen told Quest News that Giess would play NRL at some stage.

“There is no doubt in my mind at all,” Ingebrigtsen said.

“He’s definitely an NRL quality player and everyone down at the Storm is very impressed.”

Giess appeared for Easts Tigers in their 2013 Grand Final loss to Mackay Cutters.

TigersTV host Matt Crowhurst paid tribute to the popular player.

“It was a privilege to know Grant even for a short while. He was a quiet, respectful and humble guy who always had time for us fans.”

Easts Tigers had a bye in the Intrust Super Cup this weekend and are currently placed 5th.  They are due to play Tweet Heads Seagulls at Piggabeen Sports this Sunday at 3pm.
