2020 NRLW Round 2 Report

Despite having one round to go, the Roosters and Broncos have guaranteed that they will be meeting in the NRL-W Grand Final on October 25.

New-Look Roosters continue Winning Streak

They may have gone winless last season, but the Roosters have turned the tables and beaten to Warriors 22-12 to remain undefeated this year.

After a no-try ruling 6 minutes in, the scoring kicked off in the 14th minute with Yasmin Meakes breaking a tackle to dive over the line. A quick dart from dummy half saw Quincy Dodd score and take the Roosters to a 12-0 lead at half time.

The floodgates looked to open early in the second-half when Zahara Temara ran 50 minutes to score in a brilliant showcase of skill, followed shortly by Bobbi Law crossing over in the corner.

While a comeback looked out of reach, the Warriors fought back in the dying 10 minutes, as ex-Rooster Kirra Dibb beat Roosters defenders to score off her own grubber kick, and rugby convert Evania Pelite ran 60 minutes to soften the blow that little bit more.

Broncos Survive Close Game to keep Threepeat Dreams Alive

The Broncos have secured their spot in a third grand final in as many seasons with an 18-4 win over the Dragons.

It looked to be another big win by the Broncos, with an offload by fullback Tamika Upton sending Julia Robinson over in the opening 8 minutes. Millie Boyle and Ali Brigginshaw linked up to bring the lead to 12, though the Dragons hit back shortly after through a barging try to Jess Sergis.

The physicality of the game effected both teams, with the Broncos eventually being left with only 12 players.

Despite losing stars Kezie Apps (knee) and Isabelle Kelly (ankle) to injury, determination kept the Dragons finals hopes alive for most of the second half. The game was decided in the 56th minute, when the Broncos crossed the line for a final time through a strong try to Lauren Brown.
