In the final round of a stellar NRL-W season, the Warriors have beaten the pre-competition favourites to end their season on a high, and the Broncos have remained undefeated heading into the grand final.
Determined Warriors thump Injury Plagued Dragons
They may have gone into the season as red-hot favourites, but the Dragons have been handed the wooden spoon following their 12-24 loss to the Warriors.
Both teams struggled to perform this season, though both with good reasons. The Warriors came into the season with only five returning players due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a bad injury run saw the Dragons down to 16 players for their final game.
Despite being denied a try only minutes early, Dragons winger Tegan Barry opened the scoring down the sideline with the help of skipper Sam Bremner.
An error to Maddison Weatherall helped the Warriors hit back minutes later when Rugby convert Ellia Green found space after the scrum.
An offload by Shontelle Stowers saw Madison Bartlett cross to take them to an 8-4 lead at half time.
The Dragons held on well for the start of the second half before a backhand pass by Kirra Dibb put Shaniah Power over to score.
Only five minutes later, Evania Pelite took advantage of the Dragons fatigue to burst through the line and boost their lead.
Shortly later, Power secured herself a double and her team the win, but some quick footwork saw Aaliyah Fasavalu-Fa’amausili score a last-minute consolation try for the Dragons.
Broncos beat Roosters in Grand Final Preview
The Broncos have overcome a close first half to keep their three peat dreams strong, beating the Roosters 24-16.
The defending Premiers started strong, with unanswered tries to Tarryn Aiken and Meg Ward in the first 15 minutes.
The Roosters hit back minutes later when an overlap saw Taleena Simon in space to score in her first game back, shortening the gap to eight points at half time.
A fierce right-foot step by Melanie Howard saw the Roosters open the second-half scoring early.
The Broncos hit back quickly when a strong run and offload by Aiken helped Tamika Upton to score, and skipper Ali Brigginshaw ran over defenders to score and seal the game only moments later.
While the win was out of reach, the Roosters still showed determination with a 92-metre intercept try to Corban McGregor.
After a blinder of a preview, both teams will return to ANZ Stadium next week to battle it out for the 2020 NRL-W Premiership.
