Report

Successfully managing a difficult game where the Bulldogs said goodbye to Josh Reynolds, the Broncos won with a score of 44-24.

Reynolds bowed out after thirteen years of rugby league in the Bulldogs NSW Cup loss to North Sydney in the pre-match game.

It would be the other Reynolds, Adam, who would be the difference between the two sides.

During a game where the Broncos scored eight tries while their opponents managed four, Reynolds scored the first try. He also helped Kurt Capewell score the team’s second try and played a significant role in assisting both Ezra Mam and Brendan Piakura in the second half to score their tries.

The Bulldogs frightened the Broncos in the first half by getting ahead with a try from Jacob Preston. They drew level with their opponents twice in a half where a point per minute was scored. At the end of the half, the Broncos led with a score of 22-18.

Toby Sexton left the field near half time when Selwyn Cobbo’s forearm seemed to hit his head. Cobbo was reported and sent to the sin bin. Without Sexton’s guidance, the Bulldogs lost momentum in the second half.

Some sloppy marker defence by the Bulldogs led to Xavier Willison extending the Broncos lead to ten points shortly after half time.

The Bulldogs had a great chance to score when Matt Burton’s kick was perfect for Preston, but unfortunately couldn’t ground the ball. This missed opportunity seemed to demoralize the Bulldogs.

When Piakura scored with ten minutes remaining, the Broncos decided to give Reynolds a break. Reynolds had hurt his wrist while trying to make a tackle earlier. At that point, the Broncos were comfortably leading with a score of 40-18.

Braidon Burns was added to the Bulldogs injury list after he had to leave the field with an abdominal problem during the second half.
