MATCHDAY PREVIEW

After a poor performance against the Sharks in round 4, the Raiders defeated the Eels in a big win at home. This week, they take on a Titans side that is still searching for its first win under coach Des Hasler.

Several of the Raiders’ young stars stood up against the Eels, which bodes well for the future of the Green Machine. Ethan Strange keeps improving with every game, setting up a long-range try with a left-foot step reminiscent of Brad Fittler.

However, it wasn’t all roses for the Raiders, as their fullback Jordan Rapana injured his knee. Young gun Chevy Stewart made his NRL debut at fullback. Zach Hosking returns after sitting out the last game due to HIA protocols. Trey Mooney will play his first game of the season, coming onto the bench for Corey Horsburgh, who suffered a groin injury.

The Titans showed glimpses of what they could do against North Queensland, but couldn’t get the job done – in a team with names such as David Fifita, AJ Brimson, and Jayden Campbell. Speaking of Campbell, he was lucky to come through the game without injury after a hip drop tackle by Chad Townsend. There have also been calls for Brimson to be moved somewhere he can get his hands on the ball more, but that may not be possible with Foran and Campbell cemented in their positions.

After hurting his ankle against the Cowboys, Kieran Foran has been named at five-eighth. Issac Liu returns to the side after sitting out due to HIA protocols, with Joe Stimpson as the 18th man.

Head-to-head stats can be found at Round 6 Number Crunch.
