Four Pointers: Huddersfield 8-48 Hull FC

Sneyd Answering Critics

Hull FC half-back Marc Sneyd put in a stellar performance against Huddersfield, scoring three tries and kicking eight conversions as the Black and Whites defeated the Giants 48-8 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Sneyd had been targeted by former Hull player Garry Schofield in the week, who said the Englishman lacked everything but a kicking game. But Sneyd definitely proved Schofield wrong on Thursday as he led his side to victory.

Huddersfield not up to the task

The home side were well beaten in the first game of round four and provided very little going forward. They rarely had chances in either half, with their only scores eventually being recorded as consolations after Sam Wood and Oliver Roberts respectively touched down in the final quarter of the game.

The Giants’ defence was woeful too, especially when Sneyd’s half-back partner Albert Kelly danced through the defensive line in the first half to finish under the sticks.

Hull’s defensive qualities

It could be suggested that Huddersfield’s lack of points came from their lethargic approach to the fixture, but that wouldn’t do Hull’s defence justice. Lee Radford’s side were outstanding when protecting their own line, rarely letting Huddersfield get over.

Indifferent results for Giants

Rick Stone’s men would have aimed at another solid performance in round four after coming back to defeat Wakefield 24-16 in round three. But Huddersfield could not follow their victory up and instead were embarrassed by a Hull side who looked to recover from a frustrating defeat against Catalan in the previous round.
