What’s better than the first weekend of football for the season? The next weekend, and so here’s our preview of the Intrust Super Cup Round 2.
The first round produced few surprises aside from a draw in the very first game of the season between the Sunshine Coast and Easts Tigers. So maybe the Intrust Super Cup Round 2 will raise a few more eyebrows.

The weekend kicks off on the Gold Coast as the Burleigh Bears and Norths Devils both try and avoid starting the season with two straight losses. On the Sunshine Coast two sides full of NRL fringe players meet as the Falcons and Magpies face off.
At the same time even further north, Redcliffe visit the Central Capras, and could be bringing new star recruit Benji Marshall with them. It will be the biggest name to play in Rockhampton for some time.
There are two more games on Saturday night as the Northern Pride head to BMD Kougari to take on the Wynnum Seagulls, and the other Seagulls Tweed Heads fly up to Mackay in another game between two sides looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the season.
The TV game on Sunday afternoon is the Grand Final replay of 2015 between Ipswich Jets and Townsville Blackhawks.
Wrapping up the weekend is the first game of the year in Port Moresby. The Hunters take on the Easts Tigers, the last side to beat the PNG Hunters in PNG before Sunshine Coast upset them in last year’s finals series. That Tigers win was in 2014 though.
Plenty to look forward to for the upcoming round.
