It is XXXX Rivalry Round for the Intrust Super Cup Round 6, and it promises to be a quality weekend of rugby league with great rivalries and clashes.

Unlike other half hearted Rivalry Rounds, the Intrust Super Cup’s version has a full book of great games, not just the TV game.

There’s traditional teams from the old Brisbane only competition era, and then there’s some great new rivalries between teams that are only a few years old.

The big game will be on the Gold Coast though, as both Burleigh and tweed Heads meet for not only pride of the Gold Coast title, but first competition points as neither side has won a game so far in 2017.

Below is a quick run down of all the games, but click on the links for a more in depth preview, plus the results and review. Or catch our Intrust Super Cup Match Centre for all the scores.

The weekend kicks off in the usual place at North Ipswich Reserve between two South East Queensland sides heading in different directions – Ipswich Jets and Easts Tigers. Whilst the Jets have now lost four games in a row, the Tigers arrive with a hat trick of wins under their belt.

Next up is a new rivalry in the Intrust Super Cup between the Sunshine Coast Falcons and PNG Hunters. The Hunters get a chance to avenge the loss in Port Moresby in the finals last season, but will struggle as the Falcons have a great record at home to PNG. Both side have just the one loss this season.

Up north is the clash of the two northern Queensland sides as the Northern Pride welcome the Townsville Blackhawks in the next instalment of their rivalry. Can the Pride take advantage of Townsville heading into the game on a rare streak of two losses in a row?

Finishing up Saturday’s action is the other half of the northern Queensland derby as the Central Capras take on the Mackay Cutters. Both sides will be looking to get back on track after losses to top sides Norths and PNG Hunters respectively last weekend. Although whether the game will go ahead remains to be seen, and the two sides have bad weather events in common from the past few weeks.

The TV Game on Sunday is the great clash between the two Gold Coast sides Burleigh Bears and Tweed Heads Seagulls, both of whom will be desperate for a win. In a strange twist of scheduling, the Gold Coat sides meet in Rivalry Round with both sides yet to register a competition point for the year.

Another great rivalry kicks off on Sunday afternoon at BMD Kougari Oval as the Wynnum Seagulls take on their bayside rivals Redcliffe Dolphins. Redcliffe look strong as always in 2017, and Wynnum have lost their last two games, but form doesn’t always apply for the Bayside derby.

North meets South as two traditional Brisbane sides meet in the old traditional timeslot of Sunday 3pm when the Norths Devils host the Souths Logan Magpies.ย The Magpiesย are going well so far in 2017, but no one is going better than the Devils who are the surprise competition leaders. They will be without Kodi Nikorima who played with the Broncos on Thursday night.
