Another high quality XXXX Rivalry Roundย has been completed, and theย Intrust Super Cup Round 6 produced a number of interesting results.

Some change at the top as the Redcliffe Dolphins jumped to the top of the competition ladder, closely followed 1 point further back by the two in form Melbourne Storm feeder clubs Easts Tigers and Sunshine Coast Falcons, who still can’t be separated after their first round draw.

At the bottom, Burleigh got their first win of the year, and even overtook Ipswich with the two points.

North Ipswich Reserve saw the first game of the weekend as the Easts Tigers just got home against the Ipswich Jets. The sides traded tries in the second half after being locked at 10-10 at the break, and in the end goal kicking made the difference as Easts landed a penalty, but both sides only converted 2 of their four tries.

The Sunshine Coast Falconsย kept their recent record at homeย PNG Hunters in tact, making it three wins on the Coast for the Falcons against the Hunters. Sunshine Coast dominated throughout, as they outplayed the Hunters in most departments, especially holding onto the ball. The Hunters were always chasing the game, and a burst of tries in the second from the Falcons put the game to bed.

Townsville got their season back on track after two straight losses as they beat the Northern Pride in Carins on Saturday night. The Blackhawks took a 16-6 lead to half time, and were in control throughout the second matching the Pride’s two tries. They also lead the Foley Shield early with two wins from two in the tri series spin offย with Mackay and the Pride.

There was no silver lining to the week in Rockhampton asย the Mackay Cuttersย defeated the Central Capras. After the gates were opened to all after the dreadful floods during the week, Mackay spoiled the evening for the locals with a strong 38-22 win. The eight tries to four win could have been worse for the Capras if more than two of the conversions were successful. Mackay also overtake their Central Queensland rival into 9th with a 3-3 record.

Sunday’s TV Game saw yet another tightย clash between the two Burleigh Bears and Tweed Heads Seagulls, and the Bears were the lucky Gold Coast combatant to open up their 2017 season account at the expense of their local rival. There wasn’t much in it, and the Seagulls made it interesting with a late try. 100% conversion rate and two penalty goals proved the difference in the end. Burleigh even overtake Ipswich into third last with their solitary win.

Redcliffe won the battle of the bayside clubs as the Dolphins kept the Wynnumย Seagulls scoreless at home. Redcliffe scored two tries in each half, and proved why they have one of the best defensive records in the league but keeping the Seagulls to nil for the full 80 minutes. The loss makes it three losses in a row for Wynnum, whilst Redcliffe head to the to the top of the intrust Super Cup ladder.

The previous competition leaders fell backwards after Round 6ย the Norths Devils were knocked off the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder as they lost to the Souths Logan Magpiesย  in a high scoring game at Davies Park. The Magpies scored 40 points for the second week running, but did score two late tries to boost their attacking numbers. Norths were still within 8 points with 20 minutes to play. The Devils drop back to fourth and Magpies rise up to sixth.
