Just the two games on the Saturday for a change for the Intrust Super Cup Round 7, and both are up in the far northern parts of Queensland.

The first gameย kicks off in Townsville between the Blackhawks and the Burleigh Bears. Both teams come into the game fresh from a win last weekend, the Bears two points a little more significant as it was their first for the year in the Gold Coast derby. Townsville’s derby win against the Pride stopped a run of two consecutive losses.

The Pride welcome the Ipswich Jets, and both are in desperate need of a win. There’s just three wins between the two sides, and Ipswich haven’t won since Round 1 and were even overtaken by Burleigh last weekend and sit second last. The Pride are only one win better off, and although it is early days in the 2017 Intrust Super Cup season, a loss here to either side with make it hard to feature in finals football later in the year.

Onto the big game of the weekend at Suzuki Stadium for the TV audience between the Easts Tigers and Wynnum Seagulls. Easts have lost just the once this season, and come into the game having seen off competition heavyweights Redcliffe Dolphins andย Townsville Blackhawks in their current run of four straight wins. Wynnum won their first three, but have since lost three times. It should be tight being a local derby and with the Seagulls still having the third best defence on the league despite the recent run of losses.

Not far away at Davies Park is the game between the Souths Logan Magpies and the Mackay Cutters. Souths Logan were highly impressive with their resounding win over the table topping Devils, Mackay too had a good win against the Capras in last weekend’s Rivalry round. The Magpies should continue their good run, but should also be wary that the Cutters took the win at Wynnum a few rounds ago.

Another big game for the Easter weekend is in Port Moresby between two sides that should feature in finals football – PNG Hunters and Redcliffe Dolphins. The Hunters looked invincible at home previously, but cracks in their dominance are starting to show, with two losses in the last three games in Port Moresby. Competition leaders Redcliffe will be hoping to continue their stay at the top of the ladder at the expense of PNG, and no doubt it will be a tight affair.ย The Dolphin’s Thompson Teteh plays his first game against the Hunters after an off season switch.

Sunshine Coast meet the Central Capras on Sunday, and the Falcons are soaring after four wins in a row, and a big win against the Hunters last weekend. Confidence will be high against the Capras who have played well with mixed results so far in 2017.

Norths Devils and Tweed Heads Seagulls round out the weekend at Bishop Park. Tweed are still looking for their first win of the season, and Norths will be looking to bounce back after losing the competition lead following a loss to the Magpies last weekend. No Kodi Nikorima but plenty of Chris Sandow.
