ROUND 13 | Intrust Super Cup Preview
Time to avoid walking under ladders, black cats, and Kougari Oval as we reach the unlucky Intrust Super Cup Round 13 Preview. The Kougari reference is in relation to the Seagulls results, who are still yet to crack their first win at home, not the highly enjoyable surrounds of the classic Intrust Super Cup ground.
Will Unlucky Round 13 be bad news for teams who are trying to keep a good run together like the Tweed Heads – the new form team of the competition? Or a team needing some luck to turn around their season like a bunch of teams sharing the bottom of the Intrust Super Cup.
For those after a little Sunday afternoon rugby league you only get one chance this weekend, on the Sunshine Coast. The remainder are played on Saturday all down the Queensland coast.

Can’t get enough of the Central Capras? Well you are in luck as the Rockhampton based side feature on the TV game for the second week in a row. And they certainly did well against Redcliffe last weekend. They took the lead and looked comfortable against the Dolphins but couldn’t sustain it as the more experienced Redcliffe side took over. Dave Taylor impressed in the first glimpse of his work for the Capras in 2018. He may be a little larger but still has the skills.
Townsville’s great run ended in Port Moresby last weekend, but with an unbeaten record against the Capras, that losing run will be over before Saturday night,

SATURDAY 3pm – IPSWICH JETS – BURLEIGH BEARS
The Jets have been in and out of the Top 6 for a lot of the 2018 season so far, and they are currently out of it after losing to Souths Logan last weekend. They do seem to win every second game, which is easier said than done this weekend with the visit of competition leaders Burleigh. Especially since the Bears have won six of the past seven of these clashes.
Burleigh meanwhile continue to hover nicely at the top of the Intrust Super Cup ladder. They did the job against Mackay last weekend, as they have all season. They don’t thrash teams like a front running Townsville have in recent years, but they have been the best all season, and still have some of the important players from the premiership winning season of 2016.

SATURDAY 4pm – EASTS TIGERS v PNG HUNTERS
Easts Tigers got back to winning ways emphatically last weekend with a big win over local rivals Wynnum on their turf, and they return to Suzuki Stadium for the visit of the PNG Hunters side making some progress back towards the Top 6.
The Tigers haven’t quite got the results at home this season, winning only two of five games, but the Hunters are hardly a travelling side to fear in 2018 as their only away win for the season came on their last trip to Wynnum. Coincidentally both teams bloke droughts at Kougari, so who will Round 13 be luckiest for.
Both teams games highlights from last weekend are worth catching, Easts played some nice football in their big win, and Junior Rau scored one of the better tries of the year so far in the Hunters tight win over Townsville.
These teams would hardly be happy with sitting outside the top 6, so an important clash awaits on Saturday afternoon.

Mackay have done well against some of the Top 6 sides they have played in recent weeks – they beat the Devils at Bishop Park and were competitive on the road against Souths Logan and Burleigh, the competition’s top two. But despite this competitiveness they are still at the bottom of the Intrust Super Cup ladder, so a win against a team on the same number of points is important. And the carrot of moving off the bottom of the ladder is dangling
The Seagulls avoid the wooden spoon with a better for and against than the Cutters, and being on the road shouldn’t bother the Seagulls too much given their three win for the year have been away from Kougari Oval, where they remain winless in 2018. They were handed a big loss last weekend by the Tigers and will be looking to bounce back.
Mackay have beaten Wynnum in their last three meetings, but have lost their last three at home. You do the math and try and pick this one.

SATURDAY 6pm – NORTHERN PRIDE v SOUTHS LOGAN MAGPIES
The Souths Logan Magpies took advantage of a rare recent Blackhawks loss last weekend and moved into second on the Intrust Super Cup ladder, and sit just two points behind leader Burleigh with a slightly better for and against. Meaning they are primed to steal the competition lead. They did the job well against Ipswich last weekend, and it is certainly no easier with a trip to Cairns against the Pride. And their away home is nowhere as strong as their home form, a reverse on last season.
The Pride have won three of their last four, and that has been good enough to see them rise into fifth on the ladder. Their home form is also very solid in 2018 too, having won 4 of the last 5 at Barlow Park. Their only loss coming against the Easts Tigers. The Pride knocked off Redcliffe at home recently and the visit of the Magpies gives them a test of their top 6 credentials.

A big game awaits on Saturday night between one of the competition’s heavyweights, and a team threatening to join them in the Top 6.
The Tweed Heads Seagulls are the form team of the competition, on a winning streak of 6 games and counting, their run sees them equal on points with sixth place Norths Devils. Sure they have been helped by some experienced NRL players dropping to the Intrust Super Cup, but one could argue it’s no more than most of the teams in the competition
Redcliffe got past the Central Capras last weekend, just, and this will be a tougher test against and in form team, and a test of their genuine premiership credentials.
The game features a great match up of halves in Cameron Cullen v Kane Elgey.

The lonely Sunday afternoon game, and strange given most Falcons games are on Saturday. The home side in need of a win, having just 5 for the season so far and sit in 11th, four points off the Top 6. They have been unlucky too at home this year, losing a lot of close games in the final minutes.
Norths Devils are clinging onto their Top 6 status currently on for and against, and need a win to break their three game losing streak. Their away form this season has been patchy, but the Devils have a great record on the Sunshine Coast winning seven of their last eight up the coast.
