Sheffield Eagles youngster Greg Burns has agreed a new one-year part-time contract with the club.

The 21-year-old hooker was a product of the Eaglesโ€™ famed youth structure, and his association with his local club is set to continue into the upcoming season.

A player who has shown a great deal of potential, Burns will be looking to kick on after successfully overcoming a serious shoulder injury, which saw him miss a large chunk of last seasonโ€™s campaign.

โ€œI am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to work with Greg again,โ€ director of rugby an acting CEO Mark Aston told www.sheffieldeagles.com

โ€œWe have known for sometime that Greg has enormous potential, and I firmly believe that this is the season where he will really make a name for himself.

โ€œHe made great progress when he first made the fringes of the first team, but now has to kick on and try and make himself a regular in the side for the 2017 campaign.

โ€œHe has shown great resilience to come through what was a pretty serious injury last season. We knew he was a tough kid, but mentally to come back from that disappointment is testament to his character, now he needs to ready himself for the next challenge.

โ€œWe have tremendous faith in Greg, this is a wonderful opportunity for him.โ€

Burns made his debut for the Eagles in a Challenge Cup tie against Oldham in 2015, and made three appearances last season against Bradford, Workington and Dewsbury.
